OBRIEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
Dear Parent/Guardian.
We are proud of our progressive and exciting physical education program here at OSA. We would like to share our educational philosophy and class procedures with you. Please read this letter carefully as many of the below items will affect your child's grade.
Fees: There is a $10 mandatory equipment fee that can be paid in the office. The money is used to replace worn out equipment.
Mandatory Clothing: We have initiated a PE dress code to prevent injuries, inappropriate attire, loss and theft. It also helps organize our c1assles and identify students.
1.You may purchase an O’Brien P.E. uniform from Kate’s Logo for $20. (this is optional see # 2 below if you do not wish to purchase a uniform)
Kate’s Logos (kateslogos.com) 775.544.9280. Located @ 1221 West 2nd Street, Reno, NV 89502.
2. You may provide your own P.E. uniform which must be be colored blue and grey. It can be any combination of these colors (blue t-shirt and grey gym shorts or sweats, or vise versa). You must be able to put your name on the shirt.
3. No coats or jewelry are allowed in class.
4. Sweats: Sweat pants and sweatshirts are fine. Just wear your P.E. clothes underneath them. No pajama bottoms.
All students must wear the required attire for PE. Everyone will be required to dress out Friday Aug.12, 2016 If there is a problem purchasing the uniform please notify your teacher immediately.
Make-up Work for Absences/Non-Participation: For each day you are out of class or cannot participate, you will have to complete a Physical Education make-up form. Students have 7 days to complete the make-up form.
Medical Notes and Excuses: If you are unable to participate in PE due to sickness or injury, you may bring a note signed, dated with a phone number on it written by your parent stating your illness: this note is only good for that day. You still have to dress out for PE and will be given an alternate assignment. If you have a note from your doctor, it is good for the duration stated on the medical note.
Academic grades: Academic grades are determined by dressing out, participation, attitude, effort, sportsmanship, completion of make-up work, test and quizzes.
Physical Education Philosophy: We are proud of our progressive physical education program here at OMS. Each year we look forward to the growth of our facility, our program, and our student's positive self-esteem. We try to mold our students away from the stereotypical attitude that only good athletes enjoy PE and instead offer a safe, comfortable environment where students learn about the fun in fitness. Our goal is to motivate your child to develop a healthy lifestyle. We appreciate your support in making our Physical Education Program an organized and effective one.
Water Sales: Because of our earlier start time (middle of August) OSA P. E. Department will now be offering water for sale to your child. Students can bring water, get water before we go outside, or purchase water for $.50 cents. All proceeds will go directly back into P.E. equipment for the students. Water can be purchased at the beginning of class from your teacher. At that time, teachers will record how many waters the student purchased in their grade book. The water will be available to the students upon their request during class time.
PE Units The following activities will be covered this semester in our classes: Tennis, Flag Football, Indoor Soccer, Golf, Frisbee Activities, Pickle Ball, Basketball, Weight Lifting, Fitness, Cooperative Games, Badminton, Team Building Activities, Tumbling, Laser Tag, Scooter Basketball, Volleyball, In-line Skating, Track and Field, Softball, Kickball, Fitness, and Garbage Ball. Safety is always our number one concern with all the units we teach in P.E. If you have any concerns with the units being taught, please call Mr. Clark or Ms. Raber at 677-5420, and we will try to find an alternative class for your child to enroll in.
